This is an age-related condition in women where the body stops the production of oestrogen and progesterone. It leads to a set of symptoms the most prominent one of which is the end of the menstrual cycle. Hot flushes occur, as well as a feeling of general malaise. It is rare for the menstrual cycle to stop completely all of a sudden; in many cases the cycle becomes irregular.
