Spain

I worked as interpreter with the late doctor Pratip Banerji for many years and, what started as just another assignment, became a long-lasting friendship with him and his wonderful family. We shared not only congress presentations and patient consultations, but also trips and meals, laughter and beautiful moments.

One thing that surprised me, as I got to know him better, was how such an internationally renowned doctor could be so down to earth. And his sense of humor. I picture him always with a slight smile on his face and with a small funny joke to make you smile. From a professional perspective, I learned immensely from him. He would explain me all the medical details with great patience, so that in turn I could help patients understand in Spanish what was going on with their health. And he had the ability to help people relativize even the
hardest of diseases.

Last time we met, he generously had us as guests in Kolkata. I was able to see him in his usual entourage, both personal and professional, at home and at his clinic, to get to know him a little bit better and to share precious moments that I will cherish forever.
